To create opportunities for vulnerable children from marginalized and underserved communities. To give children equal access to educational opportunities and other basic services. To invest in human development by empowering people to understand their challenges and priorities. To provide training that assist people in finding practical, realistic and sustainable solutions to solve their problems.
ARK strives to serve all East African children facing a daily struggle to survive. We emphasize education and self-sufficiency in the communities where we work. By sharing information and training individuals and groups, ARK encourages communities to support themselves and to share their experiences and successes with others. This process allows entire families and communities to gain the skills necessary to ensure a more sustainable future.
To foster dignity and self-reliance, ARK and its program partners, provide a range of comprehensive services, including: family counseling, financial support for grandparents caring for orphans and other vulnerable children, health education, nutrition information, food assistance, academic support and job training among others. Our programs create awareness and builds on the idea of social responsibility. All ARK programs are interrelated and coordinated to include, an HIV education component.
While ARK executes some of its interventions as stand-alone initiatives, many are done in partnership with international and local organizations. Before engaging with a community on a specific program, ARK considers several factors:
- a community’s willingness to take ownership of a program
- the availability of resources (human and financial)
-
the potential for long-term sustainability
