health and nutrition

ARK believes that all individuals have a right to accessible preventative healthcare services and appropriate information regardless of where they live or their economic status. Besides providing mosquito nets, clean drinking water, protection of the environment, learning the value of a balanced diet, we rekindle hope through the promotion of affordable preventive health care that community members can understand and afford.

We focus our efforts on a variety of health and nutrition programs:

  • Training in basic public health awareness to help control communicable but preventable illnesses that cause unnecessary premature deaths

  • Focusing on health prevention strategies that are affordable and easy to understand

  • Education in early childhood development and parenthood including the necessity of on time immunization, birth and death registration

  • Training community facilitators in home-based care, nutrition and peer outreach, and practical community based social work skills

  • Reproductive health for youth

  • Basics of food security

  • HIV/AIDS education especially among youth, the elderly and women and efforts to eliminate stigma and discrimination against people affected and infected by disease

  • Small grants and technical support to community youth-led groups working to fight HIV and provide support to vulnerable youth and their families

  • Other health interventions as identified by the target community
